Parent coaching is when one or both parents (or any primary caregiver) meet with a professional coach in an effort to foster goal achievement related to parenting. In this non-judgmental setting, the coach can use techniques and evidence-based strategies to navigate familial issues related to children. It is beneficial to parents who need assistance to increase family functioning and improve communication.
MY APPROACH
I want to help you stop the misery. Do you ever dread coming home? Do you get frustrated with your child and find yourself yelling? Does your house feel out of control? Or are you just tired, tired of it all and don’t know how to fix it? Then you are in the right place!
I work with the whole family. I do sessions with the parents and then with the children and then all together. I work to find the area of weakness or disconnect and then find solutions and approaches for the whole family. My goal is for the family to live happily together and enjoy each other
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I received my undergraduate degree from Ashford University, Clinton, Iowa, where I majored in Social Science with a concentration in Education. After graduation, I received my Teacher Certification in Special Education (K-12), Elementary (K-5), and English as a Second Language (ESL).
I taught in Galena Park ISD as a Special Education Teacher with students who had multiple severe disabilities (seizures, Autism, ADD/ADHD, ODD, Specific learning and Intellectual Learning disabilities, Emotional Disturbances and other health impairments).
I taught in the private school sector as an independent contractor for Catholic, Jewish, and Montssori schools in the inner loop of Houston.
I taught in Spring Branch ISD as a Special Education Teacher/ Reading Specialist. I worked with students who were not reading on expected grade level, struggled with comprehension and written expression (dysgraphia).
My Principal observed me working with students with emotional behaviors. She encouraged me to apply as a Behavior Support Specialist. I applied and accepted the position and worked between 3 different schools addressing students with severe behaviors; teaching social skills and replacement behaviors, and coaching teachers how to best work with these students.
During one of my summer breaks (12 weeks), I attended a Spanish immersion language school in Quito, Ecuador where I learned Spanish and the culture. I took cooking classes, dance classes, and spent time learning about the indigenous people of Ecuador.
I received my Executive Juris Doctorate (EJD) from Purdue Global with a focus on Special Education Law and Laws for Higher Education/Universities. I worked for the Legal Aid in Fort Worth and worked with Advocates in the Houston area through Wrightslaw Special Education Law and Advocacy.
I currently work with children of a wide range of disabilities at an elementary school in Katy, Texas.
